Providence's Clamdiggers joined the Eastern Association in 1891, bringing Class A baseball to a Rhode Island city already steeped in the game. Built on the grit of a working waterfront town, the club carried local pride onto every diamond. Some teams disappear from the record books but never from the communities that claimed them.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
