Tahitian Village stood at the corner of Lakewood and Rosecrans in Downey, California, a midcentury motor hotel born from the Tiki craze sweeping Southern California in the 1950s and 1960s. Polynesian-themed lounges and motor courts gave postwar suburbia a taste of exotic escape. Places like this turned an ordinary overnight stay into something that felt like a voyage. Part of our Vintage Tiki collection, celebrating the defunct golden era bars of yesteryear.
The Details:
Red and golden-yellow text reads "MOTOR HOTEL" above large hand-drawn tiki-style lettering reading "TAHITIAN VILLAGE" with a dripping, textured effect, flanked by decorative bracket elements. A stylized red and golden-yellow Polynesian tiki totem stands to the right of the main lettering. Smaller golden-yellow text below reads "COFFEE HUT" above "13535 LAKEWOOD BLVD." and "COR. ROSECRANS • DOWNEY, CALIF."
