Petersburg's Goobers took the field in Virginia's peanut country, joining the Class C Virginia League around 1910. Named for the crop that built the region's economy, they carried local pride on every jersey. Small town baseball clubs like this one gave Petersburg something bigger than the game itself. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
A cartoon peanut character wearing a "P" cap swings a bat in a batting stance, beside a circular badge reading "ESTD 1910 CLASS C." Curved golden script reads "Goobers" with an underline swoosh, above "PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA" in smaller block text. Flowing script below reads "Virginia League" beside a small Virginia state silhouette.
