Asheville's Moonshiners took the field in 1897 as part of the short-lived Southeastern League, bringing professional baseball to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The name nodded to the region's notorious distilling traditions, a wink to western North Carolina's mountain culture. They played only one season, but left behind a name too good to forget. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Curved cream block letters read "ASHEVILLE, N.C." arched across the top. A distressed illustration depicts a bearded baseball player in a cap marked with an "A," holding a bat over his shoulder, with "1897" beside him and script lettering reading "Moonshiners" below. Cream text at the bottom reads "SOUTHEASTERN LEAGUE."
