Roanoke's Magicians took the field in the Virginia League beginning in 1894, when minor league baseball was the lifeblood of small Southern cities. Nestled in the Blue Ridge, Roanoke embraced its club as a source of civic pride long before radio or television. Some teams vanish from record books but never from the towns they represented. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
