Brockton's Shoemakers took the field in 1914 as part of the Colonial League's Class C circuit. Named for the Massachusetts city's thriving boot and shoe factories, the team carried an industrial identity onto the diamond. Small-town baseball gave working communities a source of local pride during an era when the game still belonged to places like Brockton.
