Paterson's Silk Weavers took the field in 1896 as part of the Atlantic League, representing a New Jersey city that powered America's textile industry. Baseball and mill life were inseparable then, and a team named for the trade carried real civic pride. Some clubs honored a city's identity so deeply they became the identity itself. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed golden-yellow serif text reads "PATERSON" above "ESTD" and "1896" flanking a vintage illustrated batter in a classic swing pose, rendered in the same golden-yellow ink. Flowing script reads "Silk" and "Weavers" with a long swooping tail extending from the cursive letterforms. Smaller golden-yellow block text below reads "ATLANTIC LEAGUE," "CLASS A BALL," "PATERSON, N.J."
