Charleston's Seagulls took the diamond in 1886 as a Southern League club, carrying the pride of South Carolina's Lowcountry through the early days of organized minor league ball. Class B baseball meant everything to cities like Charleston then. Before radio or television, these clubs were the communal heartbeat of a town.
