San Francisco's Hot Peanuts took the field in 1894 as part of the California Players League, a brief but defiant experiment in independent baseball. During an era when organized ball was tightening its grip, clubs like this one gave Pacific Coast players a league to call their own. They burned bright and brief, the way grassroots baseball often did. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
