Atlanta's Atlantas took the field in 1885 as part of the Southern League, representing a city still rebuilding itself two decades after the Civil War. Baseball in Atlanta during that era was more than sport. It was a declaration that the city had a future worth investing in. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed golden-yellow serif text reads "ATLANTA," above large cream script lettering reading "Atlantas" with a swooping tail. A golden-yellow illustration of a 19th-century baseball player in a standing pose appears centered, overlapping partially obscured text reading "BASEBALL CLUB." Below, cream text reads "SOUTHERN LEAGUE" above outlined serif numerals reading "1885."
