Columbus fielded a scrappy minor league club in the Southern League starting in 1896, deep in the heart of Georgia's baseball country. Class D ball was where small towns poured their pride into nine innings on a summer evening. Teams like the River Snipes gave Columbus something to rally around long before the modern game forgot places like it. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
