Medford's Nuggets joined the Far West League in 1948, bringing Class D minor league baseball to southern Oregon. Small town teams like these were the backbone of postwar America's baseball obsession, giving local kids heroes they could actually shake hands with. Some franchises lasted decades, but the Nuggets burned bright and brief.
