Richmond's Bluebirds took the field in the Virginia League during the 1890s, representing a city already steeped in baseball tradition. Minor league clubs like the 1895 Bluebirds gave Richmond its earliest taste of organized ball. They laid the groundwork for a baseball culture that would endure in Virginia for over a century. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
