San Francisco's Wasps took the diamond in 1901 as part of the California League's early efforts to bring organized baseball to the West Coast. Before the Giants ever arrived from New York, clubs like the Wasps were laying the sport's foundation in the Bay Area. Every major league city started with teams like these.
