Stockton's River Pirates took the diamond in 1893 as part of the California League, carrying the grit of a Central Valley port town into every game. Baseball clubs like these were the soul of their cities before the modern farm system swallowed them whole. Some teams vanish from the record books but never from the soil they played on.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
