Hampton's Crabs took the diamond in 1900, playing Class D ball in the Virginia League when the coastal city still smelled of salt and sawdust. Minor league teams like this one gave small towns their summers and their pride. They played before the big leagues ever looked south, carrying Hampton's name on wool jerseys in the Tidewater heat. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched blue block text reads "HAMPTON, VA." above blue text reading "ESTD 1900" flanking a red vintage hand-drawn illustration of a crab in a batting stance gripping a baseball bat, with a baseball near its claw. Flowing blue cursive script reads "Crabs" across the center. Red condensed text below reads "CLASS D VIRGINIA" above five red stars and "LEAGUE BASEBALL."
