Waterbury's Pirates brought Double A baseball to Connecticut in 1970, giving the brass city a direct pipeline to Pittsburgh's farm system. Eastern League ball thrived there for years, turning a working-class town into a proving ground for future major leaguers. Some towns remember their minor league clubs the way others remember churches. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Golden-yellow distressed text reads "WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT" above a row of five stars. A golden-yellow outline of Connecticut sits behind a pirate character in a tricorn hat swinging a baseball bat, with large cursive script reading "Pirates" beneath. Block text below reads "DOUBLE A BASEBALL," "EST.," "1970," and "EASTERN LEAGUE" in weathered golden-yellow ink.
