Brooklyn's Chelsea club, established in 1877, stood among New York's earliest organized baseball teams during the League Alliance's brief existence. That alliance gave smaller clubs formal structure when the sport was still finding its footing. Before Brooklyn even reached the major leagues, squads like the Chelsea helped lay the groundwork for the borough's deep baseball roots. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
