Santa Ana's Walnut Growers played in the Southern California Trolley League around 1910, a Class D minor league where teams traveled by streetcar between small citrus belt towns. Baseball and agriculture were inseparable in early twentieth century Orange County. Clubs like this one gave farming communities something to rally around on warm summer evenings. Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
The Details:
Arched distressed white block text reads "WALNUT GROWERS" above a vintage cartoon walnut character in golden-tan ink, wearing a baseball cap and gripping a bat, with "CLASS 'D'" in small white text to its right. Distressed white text below reads "BASEBALL CLUB," followed by stacked text reading "SANTA ANA, CA," "SOUTHERN CALIF.," "TROLLEY LEAGUE," and large block numerals "1910."
